Gallipoli Tour May 2019

General Information

Battle Honours Australia (BHA) is conducting a tour of Gallipoli in May 2019 by joining the UK Gallipoli Association’s annual tour to the peninsula, to be managed by Battle Honours UK (BHL).

The BHA tour commences in Istanbul on Friday 3^rd May and ends in Istanbul on Saturday 11^th May.  Peter Sweeney and Ron Lyons, joint owners of Battle Honours Australia (BHA), will escort clients from Sydney.

Ron and Peter, both associate members of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides (UK), will be part of the BHL guiding team on the ground. 

BHA Flights

Peter and Ron will be travelling on the following Singapore Airlines flights.

BHA’s travel agent is Alison Garland of Journeys Unlimited, mob 0412 417 416, e-mail alison@journeysunlimited.com.au.  Alison will book the same flights for clients wishing to travel with Ron and Peter.  Alison can arrange any onwards bookings for those clients who do not wish to return to Sydney immediately at the end of the Gallipoli tour.  Please contact Alison directly for bookings.

Clients have the option of making flight arrangements through their own travel agent if they wish but will be responsible for arranging their own airport transfer to the Armada Hotel in the Sultanahmet District, Istanbul.

Itinerary

The tour starts on Friday 3^rd May from the Armada Hotel in Sultanahmet, Istanbul, http://www.armadahotel.com.tr .  We will drop our bags at the hotel mid-morning after transferring from Istanbul airport.

The tour includes all coach and mini bus travel, ferry crossings, bed & breakfast and lunch.  Accommodation is on a twin share basis.  Dinner is not provided so as to encourage our clients to discover eateries of all kinds and meet the locals, who are very friendly and welcoming.

Hotels

The BHA group will be staying at the following hotels:

Friday 3^rd May – Short Tour of Istanbul

The tour visits the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, the Hagia Sophia, returning to the hotel for check-in and drinks hosted by BHA.

Saturday 4^th May - Day Tour of Istanbul

A full day tour of Istanbul -

• starts at the Topkapi Palace, which was the main palace of the Ottoman Sultans until 1856 and many famous exhibitions are housed there;
• then a ninety-minute cruise on the Bosphorus, the waterway linking the Sea of Mamara with the Black Sea;
• after lunch, The Church of Chora one of the oldest and most important churches in the city - - representing fascinating wall paintings which tell the life of Christ in historical order;
• ends with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, the largest bazaar in the world with 52 small streets and more than 4,000 shops.

Cost & Payments

The cost per person is $A3,000 excluding airfares.  A single supplement price is available on application.  The $A is subject to change with currency fluctuations.

Payment for flights only is to be made either direct to Journey’s Unlimited or, if arranging your own flights, your travel agent.

Payment for the tour is to be made direct to Battle Honours Australia Pty Ltd as per:
